Fisher Moves On To Regional Finals In NCAAs
The St. John Fisher College softball program defeated Penn. State-Behrend this afternoon in game one of the NCAA Division III Softball Rochester Regional, hosted by No. 1 seed St. John Fisher. With the win, Fisher moves on to the regional finals where it will take on the University of Rochester for two games on Saturday. The winner of tomorrow's Regional round will advance to the Super Regionals.
Pitcher
Lindsey Thayer limited the Lions to just two hits in seven innings, and struck out 14 batters.
The contest went scoreless through three innings, but the Cardinals would put their first run on the board in the top of the fourth.
Lauren Owens hit a leadoff single and was put into scoring position on a throwing error. Shortly after,
Kristina Balsano singled down the left field line, scoring Owens.
Fisher would not score again until the top of the seventh when pinch hitter
Sarah Kubik homered for two RBI, improving the Cardinal lead to 3-0.
Jennifer Knaak finished 2-for-4, while
Kristina Balsano,
Katie Mazierski,
Ashley Prince, and Owens each went 1-for-3.
The Cardinals will take on the University of Rochester for two games beginning at 1 p.m on Saturday.
