Ten Named IWLCA All-Region
The IWLCA has named 256 student-athletes in Division III with a selection to one of the
All-Region teams for 2016. Ten Empire 8 student-athletes have been named to the teams, with three selected to the Boardwalk Region and seven to the Empire Region. These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Wednesday May 18. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday June 4, 2016 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, PA.
First Team - Boardwalk Region
Victoria Alvarez, Stevens: a defender, Alvarez served as a menace to opposing attackers this season, starting all 16 games she played in where she accumulated a team-high 21 caused turnovers. Alvarez caused turnovers in all but four games, and scooped-up 23 ground balls.
Erika Wilcox, Stevens: Wilcox led the Ducks and the E8 in scoring this season with 67 goals, and finished second in the conference with 4.47 points per game as she was named the E8 Player of the Year for the second straight season. The captain was also a crucial factor on draw controls, finishing second in the conference with 49. Wilcox averaged 3.94 goals per game, and scored at least three times in 12 of Stevens' 17 contests.
Second
Team - Boardwalk Region
Kathleen Kalbian, Stevens: a midfielder, Kalbian played an equally important role of the Ducks attack this spring, finishing second on the team 40 goals and 42 ground balls in addition to 13 assists. Kalbian was top-10 in the conference in goals, goals per game, and shots per game. On the draw is where Kalbian really shined however, finishing third in the conference with 60 draw controls in a total that led the team. The first team nod is the second of Kalbian's career in addition to being named to the second team and Rookie of the Year in 2014.
First Team - Empire Region
Riley Marion, Ithaca: an attacker, scored 58 points on 49 goals with nine assists, leading the team in goals scored while ranking second in points. She also won a team-most 46 draw controls and collected 21 groundballs to go with 18 caused turnovers. Marion also led Ithaca with four game-winning goals, and she was named the co-IWLCA Division III player of the Week after scoring her 100
th career goal in a win over Elmira College.
Second
Team - Empire Region
Morgan Cadwell, Ithaca: a midfielder, appeared in and started 17 games for Ithaca, scoring 46 points on 39 goals with seven assists. She ranked third on the team in both goals and points, and she led the team with 22 free-position goals. Cadwell also won 37 draws, second-most on the team, and collected 12 groundballs to earn the second all-conference honor of her career, and her first time landing on the first-team. Cadwell was also named to the all-tournament team.
Haley DeVona, Nazareth: an attacker, was the Golden Flyers' leading scorer in 2016 with 57 points on 47 goals and 10 assists. She scored at least one goal in 16 of the Golden Flyers' 17 games and now has 112 career points, including 84 goals, through two seasons
Molly Long, Ithaca: a defender, appeared in and started all 18 games as a key contributor for a Bomber defense that held seven teams to seven goals or less. Long was second on the team in caused turnovers (27) and groundballs (30), and also won five draws with two assists.
Kayla McKay, Nazareth: starting defender for the Golden Flyers who led the team with 21 caused turnovers in 2016. She also ranked second in ground balls with 31 and third in draw controls with 33. She also scored her first career goal in a win at Houghton on April 27.
Morgan Racicot, Ithaca: an attacker, led the Bombers in points (69) and assists (29) and was second in goals scored (40). She appeared in and started all 18 games and also collected 28 groundballs and caused 12 turnovers while winning six draw controls. Racicot was third in the Empire 8 in both assists and total points, and she was named a co-IWLCA Division III Player of the Week after setting a career-high for points in a game with nine (five goals, four assists) in a win over Houghton.
Kate Rothrock, Nazareth: an attacker, led the Golden Flyers with 24 assists in 2016 and was second in scoring with 55 points. She also scored 31 goals. She has 128 career points through three seasons and ranks fifth all-time with 64 assists.
