Ithaca Falls to Geneseo in NCAA 1st Round

AMHERST, MASS. — The Ithaca College women's tennis team concluded the 2015-16 season with a 5-0 loss to SUNY Geneseo Friday morning in a first-round NCAA contest held on the Amherst (Mass.) College campus.
The Bombers (14-8) were making their 10th straight trip to the NCAA tournament but fell to the Knights (15-3), ranked 14th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Northeast Region rankings.
With the loss, Ithaca falls to 6-10 all-time in the NCAA tournament. The Bombers claimed their 11th straight Empire 8 title and the conference's automatic berth into NCAA's.
Taking on Geneseo, champions of the SUNYAC, the Bombers were competitive in the three doubles matches but wound up losing all three points.
Freshmen
Shayna Ginster and
Kathryn Shaffer dropped an 8-6 decision at second doubles, while junior
Haley Kusak and freshman
Caroline Dunn fell 8-4 at first doubles.
Juniors
Sydney Greenspan and
Maddie Overholt also fell 8-4 at the third flight.
In singles play, Kusak dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision at the first flight, falling to Cat Crummey, ranked 22nd in the Northeast Region rankings.
Dunn fell 6-1, 6-1 at second singles, while the rest of the singles matches were not completed once Geneseo had clinched the match.
Geneseo advances to play host Amherst College on Saturday on day two of regional action.
