Hoover Breaks School-Record at Cardinal Last Chance Meet

Pittsford, NY – The Utica College men's track & field team competed at the Cardinal Last Chance Meet hosted by St. John Fisher College on Saturday, May 14. Junior Jon Hoover was the Pioneers top finisher in the men's hammer throw as he broke his own school-record with a toss of 47.65 meters.

Kevin Gangemi (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central High School) placed second in the men's 200 meter dash with a time of 23.45. Christian St. placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.66, while Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough) added a 24.05 in the same event to take home sixth place.

Nicholas Ashton (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) added a seventh place finish in the men's 1500 meter run with a time of 4:14.92. Utica's 4x400 meter relay team of Kyle Carr (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson), Erik Gleba (Cassville, NY/Sauquoit Valley), Nicholas Ashton (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Christian St. Amour (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) placed second with a time of 3:30.95.

Utica's Rob Tutein (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) tied for first with a clearance of 1.93 meters in the men's high jump, while Kyle Swiecki (Boonville, NY/Adirondack ) placed seventh in the men's long jump with a personal best distance of 6.52 meters.

Sam Kaczmarek (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor ) took home third in the men's shot put with a distance of 15.23 meters, while Keanu Heedram (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) came in fourth place with a throw of 15.23 meters in the shot put. Andrew Russell (Watertown, NY/Watertown) placed second in the men's discus throw with a toss of 43.78 meters, while Kaczmarek added a fifth place finish in the discus with a toss of 41.76 meters.

Jordan Smith (Tolland, CT/Tolland) placed second in the men's javelin throw with a toss of 48.37 meters.

The Pioneers return to action next week when they travel to Westfield State in Westfield, Mass. to participate in the ECAC Championships.
