HARTFORD, CONN.  — The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team battled No. 7 Trinity College in a second-round NCAA Division III game, but the Bombers came up short in their quest to advance into the quarterfinals, falling 11-8 Sunday afternoon on Sheppard Field in Hartford, Conn.

Senior Riley Marion scored three goals, junior Morgan Cadwell added two goals with two draw controls, and freshman Allison Panara had one goal with one assist for the Bombers (14-6).

Junior Morgan Racicot and freshman Danika Wagener each scored a goal for IC while junior Emily Ross made six first-half saves and sophomore Kimberly Presuto made eight second-half saves in the loss.

Presuto collected five groundballs and Wagener had three groundballs for Ithaca, which won only five of 21 draw controls against the Bantams (16-3).

Causing two turnovers apiece were: seniors Erika Johnson and Mackenzie Robinson, sophomore Elizabeth Sauer, and freshman Reid Simoncini.

The Bombers never led against the Bantams and went into halftime trailing 6-3 after getting a pair of goals from Marion, including one on a free-position, and a free-position goal from Panara.

Ithaca came out and scored three of the first four goals of the second half as Panara connected with Cadwell for a goal 1:19 into the second.

Trinity got the goal back less than a minute later, but Wagener and Marion scored back-to-back goals to trim the deficit to 7-6 with 17:12 remaining.

But the Bantams scored three goals in a span of three minutes halfway through the second to secure the win.

Cadwell and Racicot scored goals two minutes apart to keep it a three-goal game, with Cadwell scoring on a free-position shot and Racicot adding an unassisted tally, but the Bombers couldn't get any closer and dropped to 0-2 all-time against Trinity.

It was also the second loss in as many tries in an NCAA second-round game.

Martha Griffin scored three goals with one assist and Abby McInerney scored three goals for Trinity, which outshot IC 34-16.

Trinity advances to face Mary Washington in the quarterfinals.
