The Empire 8 Conference is full of talented student-athletes and the E8 Spotlight is one way for fans to get to know them.

Jayson Yano (Foothill Ranch, Calif. / El Toro) is a senior at the Stevens Institute of Technology and majors in Quantitative Finance. VIDEO

Why did you choose to attend Stevens?
I chose Stevens because of the opportunity to continue playing baseball. I wanted to go to the east coast (I am from CA) because it would give me the best life experience in terms of meeting new people and seeing different parts of the country.

What has been the greatest part of your experience as a college athlete?
The relationships I have built with teammates, coaches, and faculty. The coaches gave me the chance to pursue my love of the game for four more years. My teammates and I have forged relationships that I will never forget and I have met guys that I will be with for the rest of my life. Faculty, like Mikey T, Russ, and Pat have made me grateful that baseball has allowed me to meet such amazing people.

Who has been the most influential person during your athletic career?
My dad. He coached me growing up. He is my biggest critic and number one fan. He taught he taught me to play with integrity and respect, and to always work hard. I am grateful to have had such a role model teach me the game I love.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Somewhere near a baseball field. Ideally, I can keep playing this game at the next level, but if not, I would love to be the next coach at Stevens and pursue a life in baseball.

What do you like most about competing in the Empire 8?
Competing with teams over the past four years has allowed me to meet guys at other schools and make friendships with guys that I would have never met staying in CA. It is always just more fun to compete against friends and people that you know.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am usually down to do anything, but whether it is going to the beach, watching TV, or just hanging out, I just like surrounding myself with friends and family.

What are the top three things on your bucket list?
Sky diving. Time travel. Go to every MLB stadium.

What is something most people don’t know about you?
My secret shame is my love for romantic comedies.

Invite four famous people, living or dead, to a dinner party:
My grandfather on my mothers side that passed away when my mother was young, Jackie Robinson, Chris Farley and Dwight Schrute.
