Smith Named Most Outstanding Performer of the ECAC Meet

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Empire 8 track and field teams completed competition at the  2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Champions on Thursday, hosted at Westfield State University. 

Ithaca College finished in second place in the women’s competition with a two-day total of 57.5 points and junior Brandy Smith earned Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet after taking first place in the women’s shot put and discus throw. The junior recorded a top mark of 14.14m in the shot put to garner the gold, then blew away the competition in the discus when she launched her third attempt 51.92m, more than six meters farther than her closest competitor. 

Stevens Institute of Technolgy senior Amy Regan claimed first place in the 1,500 meter run, recording a personal best time of 4:30.71. The time was a PR by 11 seconds, and is currently No. 10 in Division III this year. 

The Stevens 4X800 meter relay unit of Kasey SuszkoSamantha RokicsakJackie Endres andPaige Metzheiser finished second, three seconds behind Rowan. The quartet all hit personal bests and broke the school-record with a new time of 9:19.29. Fisher's 4X100 relay of Haley BrustRonni EhlersChelsea Cleveland and Jess Colmerauer finish 12th overall with a time of 50.13. Utica's 4x100 meter relay team of Rylee Meelan, Jenessa McCabe, Anaelle Amy and Sarah Wiatr placed 13th with a time of 50.13.

Stevens Senior Gladys Njoku took home first in the high jump, registering a season-best height of 1.74 meters and added a centimeter to her national lead. Ithaca junior Natalie Meyer took fourth in the high jump with a cleared height of 1.69 meters.

Utica's Mikey Maxwell shattered her own school-record in the heptathlon as she registered 4014 points and placed seventh overall.  Maxwell finished the weekend with a seventh place finish in the women's long jump (personal best 4.74 meters), an 11th place finish in the javelin (personal best 23.25) and a seventh place finish in the women's 800 meter run (personal best 2:33.92).

Senior Sarah Wiatr capped her final ECAC performance with a 16th place finish in the women's long jump as she posted a leap of 5.09.  Wiatr headed into ECAC's ranked fourth nationally with a leap of 12.28 meters in the triple jump and awaits her sixth and final career NCAA qualification.
