NEW ORLEANS (May 25, 2016) – Senior Amy Regan of the Stevens Institute of Technology and Ithaca College junior Brandy Smith have been named United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region Track and Field Athletes of the Year Wednesday.

Regan was also tabbed the USTFCCCA Track Athlete of the Year during the indoor campaign, winning the National Championship in both the 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter run at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. The senior will be competing at the Outdoor Championships this weekend. Regan will be competing in the 10,000 meter run on Thursday at 5:35 p.m. and the 5,000 meter on Saturday at 3:25 p.m.

The Green Brook, N.J. native ran the eighth fastest time ever in the 10K at the Penn Relays, turning in a time of 34:09.44, which is currently No. 1 in Division III by almost a minute. Regan currently sits third in the 5K, with a time of 16:35.07, set at the Silfen Invitational in April.

Smith, the reigning NCAA Division III Outdoor Champion in the discus, currently ranks second nationally in the discus with a mark of 51.92 meters (170 feet, 4 inches) and fifth in the shot put at 14.14 meters (46' 4.75"). Both marks were set at the ECAC Championships on May 18-19, and Smith was named the Field Athlete of the Meet for her performances.

The Miami, Fla. native will look to defender her discus title in Waverly, Iowa this weekend. She measured 53.00 meters last spring to become Ithaca's first outdoor national champion, and fourth overall in track & field program history, with the toss that was just 2.02 meters shy of the DIII national record.

Smith will compete in the discus at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday and the shot put at 12 p.m. on Friday.
