WAVERLY, Iowa. (May 28, 2016) – Senior
Amy Regan of the Stevens Institute of Technology outdoor track and field team won her second Outdoor National Championship of the weekend, placing first in the 5,000 meter at NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday
"This was one of Amy's most challenging moments of her career," said Head Coach
Justin Wood. "The 10k/5k double is something she's never done before so it was a little stressful going into both. The races may have looked easy but she worked incredibly hard to be prepared for efforts like that. Amy is a true champion in her preparation and performances."
Regan, entered the race third nationally, won the event with a personal- best time of 16:27.32. The senior won the event by almost 17 seconds, and won her fourth National Championship of the season. Regan was able to lead the race coast-to-coast, and bested her previous season-best time by almost eight seconds.
Ithaca sophomore Taryn Cordani ran in the 5,000-meter run and took 15th overall in a time of 17:27.27. She was within the top five runners with five laps remaining, but tailed off over the final 1.25 miles of the event.
Ithaca sophomore Grace Ryan took 18th in the triple jump with a top mark of 11.31 meters (37 feet, 1.25 inches). Her next two jumps measured 11.12 meters and 10.85 meters, but she did not qualify for the championship round.
Utica College senior Sarah Wiatr fouled out in four attempts in the triple jump.
