WAVERLY, Iowa –
Three student-athletes from Empire 8 women's track & field teams were in action at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships on Friday at Wartburg College.

Senior Gladys Njoku of the Stevens Institute of Technology, who won the Indoor Championships in the high jump in March, finished second, reaching 1.73 meters. In a highly contested battle, four jumpers reached the 1.73 meter mark. The senior took second after hitting the 1.73 meter plateau on her first attempt.

After eventual National Champion Molly McGraw of Illinois Wesleyan College hit the winning height of 1.76 meters, Njoku had three attempts to force the bar up another three centimeters, but she was unable to match McGraw. The Cedar Grove, N.J. native takes home a second place for the second straight outdoor campaign after finishing 10th during her sophomore season.

Ithaca junior Natalie Meyer tied for 13th in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.62 meters (5' 3.75"). Meyer got through the first three heights – 1.52, 1.57 and 1.62 meters – on the opening attempts, but was eliminated from the competition at 1.66 meters.

Ithaca junior Brandy Smith placed 15th in the shot put on Friday with a heave of 12.90 meters (42' 4"). Smith notched her top mark on the first try, but did not record a far enough throw to advance to the final round.
