ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Katherine Pitman of the Ithaca College women's track & field was named National Field Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCCA on Tuesday. This is the first time Pitman has earned this distinction during her career.

Over the weekend, Pitman broke her own school record in the pole vault twice – last Thursday at the Penn Relays and Sunday at Cornell's Big Red Invitational.

At the Penn Relays, Pitman was the only DIII athlete accepted to the championships section and finished third behind two talented vaulters from Division I Duke University. Pitman improved her career best to 3.90 meters (12 feet, 9.5 inches).

On Sunday at Cornell, the Swampscott, Mass. native cleared 4.10 meters (13' 5.25") to move into sole possession of second place nationally and into a tie for sixth on the all-time performer's list in DIII.

Pitman was also named Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Week yesterday for her performances.

The USTFCCCA recognizes 10 student-athletes each week from all three NCAA divisions and both NJCAA divisions.

Ithaca will travel to RPI this weekend for the NYSCTC Championships in Troy, N.Y.
