Fisher To Face Ithaca In E8 Title Game For Fifth-Straight Year
The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team is on its way to capture its fifth-straight Empire 8 Conference Championship, advancing to the title game after defeating Stevens Institute of Technology in a dominating 11-5 performance on Saturday afternoon.
With the win Fisher improves to 15-3, tying the program record for most wins in a season.
Fisher and Stevens were 1-1 after the first five minutes, but Fisher would begin to pull away in the remainder of the half. Sierra Badger would score on a pass from Chrissy Cook with six minutes gone, and then Fisher would score its next six points on free position opportunities.
At the half the Cardinals led the Ducks 7-2, and outscored Stevens only 4-3 in the second half, two which came on free position opportunities.
The Cardinals went 7-for-8 on free position shots, which would prove to be the difference in the game as Stevens only scored one goal on six opportunities.
Jamie Wallace and Cook both finished with three goals apiece, while Mackenzie LeVan and Cori Holbrook each scored twice.
Goalkeeper Hayley Peets recorded eight saves in the contest.
Fisher will face off in the Championship game tomorrow at 12 p.m. and will play Ithaca College for the fifth-straight time in the title game.
