Roman, Yano, Walters Tabbed CoSIDA All-District

Senior Jayson Yano and junior Zeph Walters of the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team and Senior Mike Roman of St. John Fisher College were named First Team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America Thursday.

Yano and Walters were named to the District 2 team and Roman was part of the District 3 team.

Yano was named to the First Team as a pitcher, and boasts a 3.48 grade point average as a Quantitative Finance major. The senior leads the Ducks with a .389 batting average and is second with a 2.11 earned run average. The Foothill Ranch, Calif. native also is tied for second on the team with five wins and 66 strikeouts.

Walters was a First Team selection as an infielder, and has a 3.78 GPA. The Mechanical Engineering major leads the club with six home runs and a 1.69 earned run average. Walters is also second on the team with a .365 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 32 runs batted in. In 32 innings on the mound, the junior has fanned 32 hitters, and is 6-1 with a save.

Roman, an accounting major, holds a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.65. The senior has started all 37 games at shortstop this year, while compiling a .355 batting average to go along with his team-leading 155 at-bats. He ranks first in runs scored with 38 and hits with 55. Roman, who is a four-year letterwinner, currently ranks seventh in runs scored with 123, RBIs with 108 and games played with 146, and ninth in doubles with 34 on Fisher's all-time career list. The Rochester native, is third in at-bats in a single-season with 166 back in 2015.

First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
