Thayer Named First Team All-American By NFCA
The awards keep coming for St. John Fisher College's pitcher Lindsey Thayer as she was named First Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). She is the first player to earn first team honors and was 1 of 3 finalist for National Player of the Year.
Thayer did not disappoint this year as she helped the Cardinals to their first NCAA Division III Softball College World Series appearance. The team finished third at the CWS where they fell in an elimination game to the University of Texas-Tyler who went out to claim the title. Her performance at the tournament landed her on the All-Tournament honors.
In five CWS games, she tallied 41 strikeouts while allowing just eight runs on 23 hits. Against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she went the distance striking out a tournament-high 14, while allowing a hit and a walk in the 1-0 victory. She also had shutout wins against the University of St. Thomas and the University of Texas-Tyler.
The sophomore broke her on single-season record for strikeouts with 467 this year. This season she posted a 0.94 ERA, while throwing nine one-hit games and recording 26 games where she posted 10 or more strikeouts.
In her two years, she has tallied a career record 761 strikeouts to go along with her 51-16 record, while registering a 0.97 ERA. She has started 67 of 69 games in the circle, with 62 of them being complete-games. The six-foot right hander has held opponents to a .149 batting average in her career.
