Heinrich Named Academic All-American
Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis senior
Matthew Heinrich was named a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The honor is the third of Heinrich's career, and his second as a first teamer. As part of the at-large category Heinrich earned the distinction by besting student-athletes from more than eight different sports.
The major academic honor is the second of the season for Heinrich after being named the Empire 8 Conference's Senior Scholar Athlete in mid-May.
On the court, Heinrich led the Ducks to a ninth-consecutive Empire 8 Conference Championship, and a seventh-straight appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Tennessee native led the Ducks with 15 singles victories en route to a third-straight appearance in the NCAA Individual Championship at singles.
Heinrich found his most postseason success at doubles however when he teamed with senior
Ben Foran to advance to the semifinal round of the NCAA doubles championship.
Heinrich also completed an exceptional career in the classroom at Stevens, finishing his four-years with a 4.0 GPA as a mechanical engineering major to earn class Valedictorian status.
Heinrich ended his career at Stevens as a four-time E8 Player of the Year, a three-time NCAA All-American, and the program's all-time wins leader.
