Heinrich And Foran Named ITA All-Americans
HOBOKEN, N.J. (June 9, 2016) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis seniors
Matthew Heinrich and
Ben Foran were named
ITA All-Americans Thursday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Heinrich was bestowed the honor at both singles and doubles, while Foran earned the distinction at doubles. The honor is the second in as many years for both Stevens standouts at their respective doubles and singles positions.
The duo made program history last month with a semifinal appearance in the NCAA doubles championship, making them the first Stevens team to do so. Ranked nationally for the entirety of the spring season, the pair ended the year ranked No. 5 in the ITA top-25.
Foran led the Ducks this season with 20 doubles victories, 18 of which came alongside Heinrich. The Wisconsin native completed his career with the second most doubles victories as an individual in program history.
Heinrich won 18 times at doubles, in addition to a team-leading 15 victories at singles. Competing from solely the No. 1 position, Heinrich captured a fourth-consecutive Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year Award before making a third-straight appearance in the NCAA singles championship.
Heinrich leaves Stevens as the program's all-time winner.
Behind the efforts of Heinrich and Foran, Stevens won its seventh consecutive E8 title en route to a win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Ducks won 19 matches this spring while rising to a No. 21 national ranking, the highest in program history.
