The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released its Division III Track & Field and Cross Country Academic All-Americans on June 22, and four Empire 8 Conference student-athletes were recognized. Stevens Institute of Technology senior Amy Regan was a first team selection while Ithaca’s Taryn Cordani was a second team pick. Ithaca College’s Stephen Gomez and Sawyer Hitchcock were selected to the third-team, and are both first-time honorees.

Regan is making her second straight first team appearance on the squad.  An Engineering Management major with a 3.84 grade point average, Regan picked up four National Championships during the year. During the indoor campaign, the senior won the 5,000-meter as well as the 3,000-meter run, while besting the field in the 5,000 and 10,000 during the outdoor season. Regan also claimed First Team honors last year, after winning the Cross Country National Championship in addition to adding two All-American finishes at the 2015 Indoor National Championships.

Cordani, a 4.0 student-athlete in integrated marketing communications, earned All-American status during cross country this season with a 14th place finish and was Runner of the Year in the Empire 8. She was also an All-American during indoor in the 3,000-meter run, and was the Outdoor Runner of the Meet at the E8 Outdoor Championships. Cordani competed in 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships and finished 15th.

Hitchcock, an English major with a 3.97 GPA, competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships and placed 17th overall, in what was his third career trip to an NCAA Championship. Hitchcock earned three Runner/Track Athlete of the Year awards by the Empire 8 Conference and was named Rookie of the Year in both cross country and track & field in 2012-13.

Gomez obtained a 3.93 GPA in music education during his time at IC. He obtained three all-conference nods by the Empire 8 in cross country and four during the track & field seasons. Gomez was also selected to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team twice.
