Elmira Opens Season at Pitt-Bradford Invitational
BRADFORD, Penn. -- The Elmira College men's golf team opened the fall portion of the 2016-17 schedule at the 15th annual Pitt-Bradford Invitational, hosted by the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford at the Pine Acres Country Club on Saturday.
As a team, the Purple and Gold finished in 13th place with a score of 349 (+61), with the totals from the top four individuals counting towards the team score. Penn State Behrend's White and Blue teams finished in first and second place, respectively, with scores of 312 (+24) and 317 (+29).
Brandon Payne '17 finished the season-opening event with the best round of the afternoon, as the senior linksman finished the 18 holes in a tie for 28th place out of 85 participants with an 11-over 83. Payne's score is a three-stroke improvement off of his total from last year's tournament.
Dan Gridley '18 is off to a solid start this fall, as the third-year Soaring Eagle finished just one stroke off of his single-round career best with a 12-over 84. Gridley, who also saw an improvement from last year's trip to Pine Acres by shaving one stroke off of his previous score, tied for 33rd place.
The other Soaring Eagle to card under 90 was
Brian Demo '17. The Cazenovia, New York, native, who has found success at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational over the last two years, accumulated a single-round score of 89 (+17) and tied for 50th place.
