UC Finishes Sixth; Elmira Takes Eighth

New Hartford, NY – The Utica College and Elmira College men's golf teams wrapped up the two day UC Fall Invitational with a sixth and eighth place finish, respectively, at the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford on Sunday. The Pioneers posted a two day total of 657 and were guided by freshman Patrick Coughlin (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) who finished in a tie for fifth place in the individual competition with back-to-back 77's for a total of 154. Elmira finished with a two-day total of 694 (352-343).

Utica's Easton Powers (South Lyon, MI/Port Huron (NAHL)) tied for 23rd place with a two day total of 166. Powers shot a 90 on day one but came back with an impressive 76 on day two to climb 16 spots up the leaderboard.  UC's Christopher Netto (Watertown, NY/Watertown) placed 27th in the individual competition with a two day total of 168 (84,84), while Kevin Kirisits (Buffalo, NY/Brockville (CCHL)) posted an 81 and an 88 for a two day score of 169 and a 29th place finish.

Elmira sophomore Charl Pretorius '19 led the charge on Sunday by firing a single-round career low 81, leaving the South African product 10-over par on the day. The impressive turnaround allowed Pretorius to jump six spots up the leaderboard and place in a tie for 29th with a score of 169 (+27).

Brandon Payne '17 placed second among the Soaring Eagles in a two-way tie for 31st. The senior linksman followed up his opening-round 84 (+14) by carding an 88 (+17) on day two for a total of 172.

Nicholas Neary '19 and Dan Gridley '18 each advanced two spots in the standings by concluding the tournament with identical rounds of 87 (+16). Neary grabbed 36th place after tying his career best single-round score, while Gridley close behind in a tie for 37th. Senior Brian Demo '17 rounded out the Elmira scorecard tied for 48th place with an overall score of 186 (+44).
