CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team returned to action on Sunday with second-day action at the St. Lawrence Invitational. The Bombers had four men alive in the semifinals round of singles play, while one doubles tandem also advanced to the second day of the invitational.

The men's netters had an extremely successful day with IC players securing individual titles in both the A-Flight and C-Flights, as well as the consolation ladder of the C-Flight.

"A" Flight Singles
Ithaca freshman, Minos Stavrakas, concluded his first collegiate tournament in style with a pair of victories to take the title in the A-Flight singles division.

He opened the day with a thrilling semifinal match against Hobart's Alan Dubrovsky. After taking the opening set 6-3, the Statemen netter flipped the score with a 6-3 win in the second. The match headed to a super-breaker, which the Bombers rookie won with a 10-7 win in the tiebreaker.

Stavrakas went up against another Hobart opponent in the final in Jonah Salita. The IC freshman controlled play from the outset, taking the match in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-3 win.

"B" Flight Singles
Ithaca had two players advance to the semifinals in the B-Flight bracket, as rookie players Liam Spiegel and Jared Fields took to the court.

Unfortunately, neither player was able to advance out of the semifinal round. Spiegel dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Rochester's Andrew Nunno in the first semifinal. Fields also had a fiercely contested semifinal round match against Rochester's Yifan Shen. After falling 7-5 in the opening set, Fields rallied in the second set to win 6-2. The ensuing super-breaker went 24 points with Shen eventually prevailing, 13-11, to win the match.

"C" Flight Singles
IC senior, Nathan Wolf, was the Bombers' lone representative in the second-day of the C-Flight. Wolf won both of his matches in convincing fashion to become Ithaca's second title winner of the afternoon.

Wolf opened the day with an emphatic 6-2, 6-0 winner over Hobart's Jake Criss. He followed that effort with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over St. Lawrence's Elliot Solandt to take the title.

"C" Flight Consolation
Bombers freshman, Max Prestwich, advanced into Sunday in the consolation bracket of the C-Flight. He opened the day with an 8-4 victory over Ryan Zu of Rochester in the semifinal round. He followed that effort with an 8-6 win over Hobart's Colin Molloy in the final.

"B" Flight Doubles
Wolf and Fields returned to the court in doubles action this afternoon, as they faced some stiff competition in the B-Flight.

The duo defeated Yifan Shen and Tanmay Thakkar of Rochester 8-3 in the semifinal round. The combo battled hard in the final against a tandem from the tournament hosts. The Saints' Dean Sponholz and Spencer Whitmire outlasted the IC combo 8-6, as the Bombers narrowly missed out on a third title on the afternoon.

Looking Ahead
Ithaca returns to action next weekend when it will head to the Keystone State for the two-day Bloomsburg Invitational on Saturday, September 17, and Sunday, September 18.
