Ithaca and Utica Cap off St. Lawrence Invitational
CANTON, NY- The Ithaca College and Utica College women's golf teams wrapped up its first tournament of the season on Sunday afternoon, as they returned to Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course for second-round action at the St. Lawrence Invitational.
IC saw steady improvements across the board, as the team climbed up the team rankings to finish in a tie for third place with Hamilton College, posting a two-day cumulative total of 645 (+69). Utica improved upon its score from day one by four strokes finished ninth out of ten teams at the event.
The Bombers had three of their five golfers improve on their rounds from yesterday, led by junior
Indiana Jones, who shaved nine strokes off her opening round score to fire a 74 (+2) on Sunday. The score was tied for the second lowest round of the day. Jones finished the tournament with a two-day total of 157 (+13), climbing eight spots on the individual leader boards on Sunday to finish in a tie for 10
th place.
Senior
Kimberley Wong also continued her hot start to the season, following her 75 (+3) from yesterday, with a 76 (+4) on this morning's round. She finished fourth overall at the tournament with a two-day score of 151 (+7).
"Indiana and Kimberley really stepped up their course management today to avoid some of the big numbers that plagued us as a team yesterday," head coach
Molly Braid said. "We hit better approach shots and the entire team continued to scramble well around the greens."
Rounding Ithaca's scoring four-some was junior
Kyra Denish and freshman
Peyton Greco. Denish improved six strokes on her opening round score to fire an 81 (+9) on Sunday. Greco continued to play extremely consistent golf in her first collegiate tournament, following up her 84 (+12) with an 85 (+13) on Sunday. Denish finished the tournament with a two-day score of 168 (+24) to finish in a tie for 19
th place, while Greco was right on her heels with a 169 (+25) to finish in a three-way tie for 21
st.
Senior
Mary Rooker rounded out Ithaca's lineup, showing excellent improvement with a round under her belt. She shaved five strokes to card an 88 (+16). Her improvement helped her stay level for a 33
rd place finish.
UC improved upon its score from day one by four strokes. Freshman
Kara O'Driscoll (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke) shot a 90 on day two to bring her weekend total to 183, tying her for 35
th and marking Utica's highest finisher. Senior
Jane Pagano (Erie, PA/Tabor Academy) shot a 108 to bring her two-day total to 210, while freshman
Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) shot 105 on day two to finish with a 215.
Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) was fourth on the squad with a 113 on Saturday and a total of 228 on the weekend, while
Miranda Cuda (Sylvan Beach, NY/Oneida) rounded out the field with a two-day total of 257.
