Utica Earns Second Win in Three Days

Utica, NY – The Utica College women's tennis team earned its second win in three days on Sunday as the Pioneers topped visiting SUNY Delhi 9-0 in non-conference action at the Utica College Tennis Courts. 

The Pioneers moved their record to 2-2 overall on the year and will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Nazareth College to take on the Golden Flyers in Empire 8 Conference action at 1 p.m.

The Pioneers opened up by sweeping all three doubles matches.  Julianne Pieros (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg) and Shannon Fillmore (Somerset, NJ/Franklin ) teamed up for an 8-4 win in first doubles, while Sara Gribanoff (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) and Anastasia Fitzpatrick (Parksville, NY/Liberty) defeated Jenna Bellair and Rani Samudrala, 8-4, in second doubles.  LuLu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) and Gabriella Morreale (Utica, NY/T.R Proctor) defeated Mei Pan and Adrianna Kolz 8-0 in third doubles to give the Pioneers an early 3-0 lead.

Pieros came back with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in first singles, while Gribanoff posted a 6-1, 6-1 win in second singles.  Monica Johnson (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) topped Delhi's Jenna Bellair 7-6, 6-2 in third singles and Anastasia Fitzpatrick (Parksville, NY/Liberty) picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win in fourth singles.

LuLu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) and Shannon Fillmore (Somerset, NJ/Franklin ) both posted wins at fifth and sixth singles to help the Pioneers to the shutout victory over the Broncos.
