Stevens Cruises To Win Over Alfred
HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 10, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team won five singles matches in straight sets Saturday in an 8-1 Empire 8 Conference victory over Alfred University.
The win moved Stevens to 2-1, while Alfred fell to 0-3.
Sophomore
Jill Hadwen and freshman
Julia Earl got the winning started with a commanding 8-0 win at third, followed soon after by junior
Katrina Guido and sophomore
Sydney Zoretic's 8-3 victory at second. The win kept Guido/Zoretic undefeated this season at 3-0.
Alfred responded with a win at first, but it's all the winning they would do the rest of the afternoon as Stevens won all six singles matches to seal the lopsided win.
Alfred's retirement at second gave a victory to Piskarev, followed by Guido's 6-1, 6-0 victory at third. Senior
Alexis Connor followed suit with a 6-1, 6-2 win at first, before Zoretic and freshman
Isabella Calandra each won convincingly at fourth and fifth respectively.
Senior
Jillian Morneau completed the singles sweep after that with a 7-5, 6-1 win at sixth, to give the veteran a perfect 3-0 start to the season at singles.
The Ducks will head back out onto the road next weekend when they travel to Houghton College for a Saturday match at noon.
