HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 16, 2016) – Senior Christina Sciarra recorded her 1,000th career kill as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team picked up two wins at the Ducks Classic Friday.

The Ducks moved to 11-1 with the wins over Hartwick and Oswego State.

STEVENS 3, HARTWICK 0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-22)
After the Ducks started out with eight of the 13 markers, Hartwick countered with three of the next four, getting to within 9-8. Freshman Casey King rolled seven straight points, forcing the visitors into a timeout. Hartwick would only get as close as nine, with Stevens scoring the final three tallies, capped off with an ace from junior Sydni Horner.

Stevens fell behind 5-4 in the second stanza, before Sciarra tallied five in a row including a pair of service aces. After a service error, senior Mary Tobin slammed a kill home and served four consecutive points, helped out by two kills from King. Hartwick closed to within eight, but sophomore Emily Piekarski used two aces to end on a 6-0 spurt and clinch set two.

The Hawks stormed out to an 11-4 lead in the final frame, and the Ducks were forced to take a timeout. The timeout worked, as a Sciarra kill knotted the period at 13, and junior Mckenzie Kingsbury gave Stevens a lead. The edge was short lived, with Hartwick scoring three straight. With the period tied at 21, Stevens scored four of the next five, as Sciarra's 1000th kill was the final one of the match, sending the Ducks to a win.

The Ducks hit .404 as a unit, getting 12 kills each from Tobin and Sciarra. Tobin chipped in 12 digs, while Horner had a match-high 17 digs.

STEVENS 3, OSWEGO 0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-19)
With Oswego leading 3-2, Piekarski gave Stevens a lead with two aces during a 5-0 spurt. Stevens pounced ahead 12-6, but the Lakers sliced the lead down to two, aided by a pair of unforced errors. After the visitors received back-to-back aces from Allison Berger to get within 18-17, eight of the final markers went in Stevens favor, capped with consecutive kills from freshman Shelby Stewart.

The second period opened with Oswego scoring the first three before the Ducks took six straight behind sophomore Brianna Perez on the service line. Only leading by three, King forced Oswego into a timeout thanks to seven straight to stretch the lead to double digits. Piekarski once again ended the set, sending home a kill from the backrow.

The teams mirrored each other in set three before Piekarski reeled off six straight to give the Ducks a lead they did not relinquish. A Laker attack error brought up match point, but the guests didn't go quietly, fending off five match points. Only after an unforced error were the Ducks able to claim victory for the second time.

Piekarski was a force with three aces and two kills while Stewart had five kills and four block assists. Classmate Sara Hain had three kills to go along with three assisted blocks as well.
