COBLESKILL, N.Y. -- The fleet-footed duo of Caitlin Malanowski '20 and Hannah Lundgren '18 guided the Elmira College women's cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the Steve A. Warde Invitational, hosted by SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday.

For the second week in a row, Malanowski, a freshman from Albion, New York, paced the Soaring Eagles to the finish line. She grabbed 18th place overall with a time of 21:31.43, a new personal record and the fifth-fastest 5K time in program history.

Not too far behind the first-year runner was Lundgren, who earned a 25th-place finish. The Horseheads, New York, native was clocked with a time of 22:00.77, which ranks just behind Malanowski's result as Elmira's sixth-fastest 5K time in program history.

EC saw four additional runners register PR times on Saturday. Hannah Gaston '17 trimmed nearly 38 seconds off of her time from last season's Harry F. Anderson Invitational results and ran a personal-record time of 23:31.88. She placed 43rd overall out of 83 total participants.

Also establishing new PRs were Kaitlyn Ritz '18 (24:16.00), Irene Zimmerman '19 (24:16.69), and Melody Ribeiro '17 (24:30.26), who finished back-to-back-to-back in 48th, 49th, and 50th place, respectively. Although she did not complete the course with a PR time, Abby Tourison '17 led that flock of Soaring Eagles with a 47th-place performance and a time of 24:14.77.

Elmira placed seventh out of the nine teams at the invitational with a score of 170 points, 49 points behind sixth-place Sarah Lawrence College and 21 points ahead of eighth-place Morrisville State. As a team, the Purple and Gold greatly reduced their average time from the season-opening Alfred State Invitational from 26:46.57 to 23:06.97.
