Stevens Finishes Third; Hartwick Fourth

ONEONTA, N.Y. (September 17, 2016)
– The Stevens Institute of Technology and Hartwick College men's cross country teams placed third and fourth, respectively, at the Oneonta Airfield Invitational Saturday.

The meet took place at Fortin Park, site of the 2016 Empire 8 Conference Championships. Host Oneonta tallied 19 points, while SUNY-Delhi was second with 47. Stevens was third with 69, with Hartwick finishing with 120.

"The men had a tough workout this week and looked pretty tired today as a result," said Head Coach Justin Wood. "We need to get healthy as well.  Once we get everything in order we will be in a good place." 

For the second straight week, senior Chris Banko was the Ducks top finisher, placing ninth in 19:27.8. Banko missed placing in the top-eight by just under a second. Sophomore Doug Wrede and freshman Jake Catalano each recorded top-15 times. Wrede was 11th in 19:33.5 while Catalnao was 14th in 19:55.4.

A pair of sophomores, Tom Selvaggi and Ryan Little rounded out the scoring for Stevens. They finished in 20th and 21st respectively. Selvaggi was 3.4 seconds behind Little in 20:24.4. 

Hartwick's men's and women's cross country teams competed for the third consecutive weekend on Saturday at the annual Oneonta Airfield Invitational held at Fortin Park. Both Hawk teams placed fourth at the event.
           
Hartwick senior Chris Shaw (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) was the Hawks' top finisher on the men's side of things. His 6K time was 21:36.2. Fellow senior Tim Mahony (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic) was a few spots behind Shaw. Mahony ran the race in 22:03.1.
           
Ethan Pine (Poughkeepsie, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) secured a time of 22:18.5 for the Hawks.
