Ithaca Wins Team Title at William Smith Invitational

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College golf team picked up its first team title of the season on Sunday afternoon, extending its five-stroke edge following the opening round to outpace runner-up St. Lawrence by 17 strokes. The team win continues the Bombers excellent start to the 2016-17 season.
 
For the second consecutive day, the Bombers' scoring four-some paced the field. IC shaved seven strokes off its opening round combined total of 336 (+48) to post a 329 (+41) on day two. The total paced the next closest team, Hamilton's 337 (+49) by eight strokes.
 
"The team did well to stay present today and focus on one shot at a time," head coach Molly Braid said. "They played the course well and made some excellent decisions, learning from their opening rounds from yesterday."
 
Ithaca players packed the top of the individual leaderboards, as four IC women finished in the top nine places overall in the 50 player field. Pacing the Bombers on day one, Kimberley Wong fired an 81 (+9) for a second straight day to finish second overall at the tournament. She trailed only Hamilton's Libbie Warner, who bested Wong by four strokes to take individual medalist honors.
 
Indiana Jones was Ithaca's top scorer on Sunday, carding the second-best score of the day with a final round 79 (+7). The junior was sensational on the back nine, coming in with a scintillating 39 (+3), which included a great birdie-two on the par-three 16th hole. She finished in third place overall with a two-day total of 165 (+21).
 
Junior, Kyra Denish, rounded Ithaca's trio in the top-five of the overall standings. She followed yesterday's 83 (+11) with an 84 (+12). She finished the two-day tournament with a 167 (+23).
 
Freshman, Peyton Greco, improved one stroke over yesterday's 86 (+14) to card an 85 (+13) on Sunday. She finished in a tie for ninth overall.
 
Junior, Lauren Saylor, and senior, Mary Rooker, saw the most improvement from yesterday's opening round to today's final round. Saylor improved six strokes to shoot an 88 (+16) to finish in a tie for 18th place. The 88 was just two strokes shy of her career-best 18-hole score. Rooker shaved seven strokes from her opening round to shoot a 97 (+25). The senior ended up in 35th place overall.
 
ELMIRA
After carding a team score of 386 in the first round on Saturday, the Soaring Eagles recorded a 403 in round two, finishing with a cumulative score of 789 (+213).

The Purple and Gold had two student-athletes finish inside the top-25 out of the field 50. Audrey Clarke '18 tied with Emma Mellman of St. Lawrence University with a two-day total of 176 (+32). She added four strokes to her first-round 86 and carded an 18-over 90 on Sunday.

First-year golfer Alyssa Ogden '17, competing in her second collegiate tournament since transferring to EC this fall, equaled her best round from the season-opening Utica College Invitational on Sunday. She trimmed six strokes off of her first-round score with a second-round 89 (+17) and registered a two-day total of 184 (+40).

NAZARETH
Nazareth turned in an 8th place finish with a two day total of 861 (+285), edging out St. John Fisher at 886 (+310).

Katherine Babuka saw the biggest jump from round 1 to round 2, going from a 104 on Saturday to a 96 on Sunday.  She finished with a 200 (+56) to earn a tie for 33rd place.

Fellow Freshman Natalie Farr saw an improvement as well over the two days to finish in a tie for 37th place.  She shot a 108 on Saturday and a 103 on Sunday for a two round score of 211 (+67).

Olivia Dowdle was not far behind, finishing in 39th place with a two-day score of 217 (+73).

Kayla Page went rounds of 113 and 120 for a 233 (+89), good for 44th place.

Lacey Rezucha also competed for Nazareth with a 238 (+94) for 48th place. 

ST. JOHN FISHER
Fisher placed ninth overall with a two-day total of 886 (435-451).

Megan Bleck led the way for Fisher, finishing in tie for 33rd place at +56 (99-101-200).

Victoria Maddalone finished in 36th place at 102-106-208, while freshman Hannah Owens made her collegiate debut, posting back-to-back rounds of 117.
Meghan LiVoti rounded out the scoring for Fisher and placed 50th overall.
