Stevens Routs Houghton
HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 17, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team picked up its first shutout victory of the season Saturday in a 9-0 win over Houghton.
The win moved Stevens to 3-1, while Houghton fell to 2-3.
Senior
Alexis Connor and freshman
Isabella Calandra won 8-5 at first doubles, while junior
Katrina Guido and sophomore
Sydney Zoretic picked up the 8-2 win at second. The victory kept Guido/Zoretic undefeated this season at 4-0.
Sophomore
Jill Hadwen and freshman
Julia Earl completed the clean sweep with an 8-1 at third, giving the Ducks their second doubles sweep of the season.
Singles brought continued success for Stevens as Connor held off Caroline Phillips at first with a 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 win, while Piskarev tallied a 6-0, 6-1 victory at second. Zoretic won 6-0, 7-6 at second, and Calandra won 6-1, 6-1 at fourth.
Senior
Jillian Morneau kept her undefeated singles season alive with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fifth, while Earl rounded out the Stevens points with a 6-2, 6-0 win at sixth.
The Ducks will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Madison for a match with Drew.
