The fall season is in full gear with all sports into the league portion of their schedules, which means the competition is at an all time high level.  Those earning weekly honors for the week of Sept. 12-18, 2016 include...

Football Offensive Player – Alfred
Tyler Johnson, Senior, QB – East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa
 
Tyler Johnson rushed for four touchdowns in Alfred's 34-10 win at Buff State in the Saxons' E8 opener. Johnson ran for 92 yards on 19 carries and scored on runs of 22, 12, 3 and 1 yards. He also completed 11 of 18 passes for 160 yards with no interceptions.
 
Football Defensive Player – St. John Fisher
Demarre Nelson, Sophomore, CB – East Rochester, NY/East Rochester
 
Demarre Nelson sealed Fisher's 31-24 win over No. 15 ranked SUNY Cortland on Saturday as he made two interceptions in the Fisher red-zone in the final three minutes. The first was made at his own 7-yard line with 3:08 remaining in the game. Fisher was forced to punt on its next possession, giving Cortland the ball at midfield with 1:01 remaining, but Nelson again came up big, making his second interception at the Fisher 17 with seven seconds left.
 
Football Special Teams Player – Utica
Nicodemus Gambill, Senior, KR/RB – Rochester, NY/East Hight
 
Senior return man and running back Nicodemus Gambill posted three kickoff returns for 151 yards and set a new school-record with a 99 yard kickoff return for a touchdown as the Pioneers topped Morrisville 28-21 Saturday night. Gambill’s 151 return yards ranks third on the College’s single game list. In the third quarter Morrisville took a 21-14 lead with an 89 yard touchdown run at the 10:18 mark of the quarter. Gambill answered on the ensuing kickoff with his 99 yard touchdown return to tie the score at 21-21 with 10:04 remaining in the third quarter.
 
Field Hockey Offensive Player – W&J
Rachel Buyan, Sophomore, Midfield – Huntington Beach, CA/Edison
 
Rachel Buyan moved into second on the team in goals and points with a pair of scores on Saturday at Nazareth, helping the Presidents improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8
 
Field Hockey Defensive Player –  Hartwick
Shannon Carter, Senior, Goalie – Falls Church, VA/ J.E.B. Stuart
 
Shannon Carter has been the only goal keeper featured in Hartwick’s last two contests. In her defensive efforts, not only was she able to protect the Hawks’ undefeated record, 6-0, but also tie for the best start to a season in program history. The senior stopped four shots against Brockport to disallow for the Golden Eagles to get on the board. In a battle with Morrisville, she saved three shots to ensure the Hawks 2-1 victory.
 
Men’s Cross Country Runner – Ithaca
Sean Phillips, Senior – East Aurora, NY/East Aurora
 
Senior Sean Phillips was Ithaca’s top finisher at the U of R Yellowjacket Invitational, posting a time of 25:44.9, good for third place overall out of 317 runners. Phillips was just 1.5 seconds behind the runner-up from St. Lawrence. Ithaca finished eighth out of 29 as a team.
 
Women’s Cross Country Runner – Ithaca
Taryn Cordani, Junior – Douglas, MA/Douglas
 
Junior Taryn Cordani bested the field at the 6K U of R Yellowjacket Invitational in a time of 21:16.0. Cordani was nearly 12 seconds faster than the next closest runner in the field. She finished ahead of every runner from Division I Cornell University, whose top seven runners were within the first 10 to finish.
 
Men’s Golf co-Athlete – St. John Fisher
Karl Deuble, Senior – Liverpool, NY/Liverpool
 
Karl Deuble had a 150 in the first two rounds of the Empire 8 Championships to tie for first place after 36 holes. Deuble shot the lowest score of the day, 74, on Saturday with 11 pars and two birdies. On Sunday he had eight pars and four birdies en route to carding a 76.  
 
Men’s Golf co-Athlete – St. John Fisher
Joel Jakubowicz, Senior – Utica, NY/Whitesboro
 
Joel Jakubowicz had a 150 in the first two rounds of the Empire 8 Championships to tie for first place after 36 holes. Jakubowicz shot a 77 on Saturday and improved by four strokes on Sunday to card a 73, at Timber Banks Country Club. In 36 holes for the week, Jukobowicz had 27 pars and two birdies on his card.
 
 
Women’s Golf Player – Ithaca
Indiana Jones, Junior – Alton Bay, NH/Prospect Mountain
 
Indiana Jones posted an excellent pair of rounds to help power the Bombers to a team-title at the 2016 William Smith Invitational. She carded the second lowest round of the weekend with a 79 (+7) on Sunday to finish third overall at the event. She has finished in the top-10 at both of her tournament thus far this fall.
 
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player – Elmira
Michael Bryant, Junior, Forward – Portola Hills, CA/El Toro
 
Michael Bryant was the key factor in Elmira's 1-0-1 showing a week ago. After double-overtime scoreless draw with RIT, Bryant exploded for six points, which tied his career high, in Elmira's 6-1 conference-opening win over Utica. The Portola Hills, California, native assisted on EC's first two goals, including the game winner, and tallied two others to preserve the win. Bryant has six multi-goal games in his collegiate career and is now tied for 7th place in EC history for career goals (26) and is 8th in program history for career points (59).
 
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player –  Ithaca
Zach Jacobsen, Senior, Goalie – Frederick, MD/Frederick
 
Zach Jacobsen of the Ithaca College men's soccer team earned two more shutout wins in net last week including one in conference play after the Bombers blanked both Wells College and Stevens Institute of Technology. Jacobsen combined to play all 180 minutes in goal and made seven combined saves. Against Wells, the senior registered two saves before stopping five shots against the Ducks. The win against Stevens marked the first conference loss for Stevens since 2009.
 
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player – Nazareth
Laura Herman, Junior, Midfield – Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland
 
Laura Herman had a goal and added an assist in a 1-0-1 week for Nazareth. She scored the lone goal for the Golden Flyers on Friday as they earned a draw with St. Lawrence. She also added an assist on the game-winning goal against Clarkson on Saturday.
 
Women’s’ Soccer Defensive –  Nazareth
Allison Dobles, Senior, Goalie – Spencerport, NY/Spencerport
 
Allison Dobles allowed just one goal in 179:40 of play, helping Nazareth to a 1-0-1 weekend. She made seven saves in a 1-1 tie against St. Lawrence and three saves in a 4-0 blanking of Clarkson.
 
Women’s Tennis Player – Utica
LuLu Zhang, Junior – Wenzhou, China/Newcomers
 
LuLu Zhang went 2-0 at fifth singles and 1-1 at third doubles last week. She teamed up with Gabriella Morreale and defeated Wells 8-0 in third doubles on Sunday. She also earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles as the Pioneers topped Wells on Sunday. She tallied the Pioneers lone point at fifth singles against Nazareth College on Saturday. She is now 4-2 on the year at fifth singles and 3-3 at third doubles.
 
Women’s Volleyball Player –  Stevens
Christina Sciarra, Senior, OPP – Montclair, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy
 
Christina Sciarra recorded her 1,000th career kill in leading the Ducks to a perfect 5-0 week, including straight set wins over regional powers New Paltz and Stockton. Sciarra had double-digit kills in 4 of the 5 matches, including 12 in the E8 opener over Hartwick. Against New Paltz, she recorded 13 kills and eight digs, and tallied a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs against Oneonta on Saturday. She finished the week with 53 kills, 36 digs, nine blocks and six aces.
 
Women’s Volleyball Rookie –  Ithaca
Caitlyn Floyd, Freshman, Setter – Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy
 
Caitlyn Floyd has established herself as one of the best young setters in the conference through the early portion of the year. Her distribution helped the Bombers to a 3-1 weekend, which included a victory over #14 Carnegie Mellon. She finished with 86 assists over the four matches, which included a career-high 30 against the nationally-ranked Tartans. Floyd also wasn't afraid to insert herself into the attack on day two of the tournament, collecting a career-high five kills to go with 22 assists in Ithaca's five-set win over Franklin & Marshall.
