Pretorius Paces Elmira With Career-Low Round at Oswego State Fall Invitational
OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's golf team received top-15 finishes from
Charl Pretorius '19 and
Dan Gridley '18, as Soaring Eagles placed sixth at the Oswego State Fall Invitational, hosted by the Lakers, at the Oswego Country Club on Monday.
Pretorius continued his hot play of late by once again topping his best collegiate round. Having just established a new career-low round with an 81 at the Utica College Invitational, the South African native recorded an eight-over par 79 on Monday. His score was one of just eight in the 70s out of the field of 41. He parred eight holes and birdied one en route to a tie for fifth place.
Gridley finished the round of 18 in a tie for 11th place by equaling his career-low score of 82 (+11). A model of consistency, the third-year Soaring Eagle finished one shy of the tournament lead with 11 pars. He was extremely efficient on the par-threes, as he concluded the day a combined one-over par on those four holes, which was a mere stroke off of the tournament lead.
Brian Demo '17 wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 23rd after carding an 85 (+14), the fourth-best score of his collegiate career. Rounding out the flock of Soaring Eagles was classmate
Brandon Payne '17 in a tie for 33rd. Payne fired a 90 (+19) and paced the Purple and Gold with a pair of birdies.
EC placed sixth out of the eight teams with a cumulative score of 336 (+52) on the par-71 course. The Soaring Eagles were just one stroke shy of fifth-place Hobart College, which shot a 335 (+51), whole besting seventh-place Morrisville State by three strokes.
