Smith and West Named to D3football.com Team of the Week
D3FOOTBALL.COM TEAM OF THE WEEK
For the third straight week, the Empire 8 is represented on the D3football.com Team of the Week. This week SUNY Cortland junior wide receiver Jake Smith and Morrisville State College junior running back Darrel West have been selected for their performance on the field September 17.
Smith caught 11 passes for 167 yards, both career highs, with one touchdown in Cortland's 31-24 loss to St. John Fisher. His 77-yard TD reception in the third quarter drew the Red Dragons within 24-17.
West rushed for a career high 256 yards on 28 attempts, and posted all three Morrisville State touchdowns on the night to lead the Mustangs in their offensive game against Utica College in the conference opener.
His touchdown scores came at lengths of 3-, 26- and 89-yards, as the Mustangs posted 294 total rushing yards on the night.
