Ithaca Marks Solid Showing at Bloomsburg Open
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team returned to the courts this weekend when it hit the road for its second tune-up ahead of the ITA Northeast Regionals next month. The IC men's squad took part in several individual singles and doubles matches, as members of the Bombers took on Wilkes, as well as NCAA Division II Bloomsburg.
Ithaca opened the competition with doubles play, as the Bombers sent four doubles tandems into action for eight-game pro sets.
Minos Stavrakas and
Michael Gardiner played a tightly contested match against Dhir Gala and Pablo Herrero, which took an extra game to decide, with Bloomsburg's duo pulling out a 9-7 win. IC's tandems of

Ben Sharpe both came up short in their matchups against Bloomsburg netters, each grouping falling 8-2. IC's lone doubles victory came from the tandem of Colton Lavery and
Max Prestwich, who defeated Bloomsburg's grouping of Cioffe/Nakasone by an 8-3 score.
In the singles portion of the competition, IC had several players advance to the third round with victories in round number two. Stavrakas scored a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Wilkes' netter Jayceen Murphy. Lavery added a 6-3, 7-5 win over Troy Haas of Wilkes.
Nate Wolf added a 7-5, 6-3 win over the Colonels' Adam Lefkandinos. Prestwich picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win over Wilkes' Chris Maderitz. Lazarevic added a thrilling three-set victory over Braddock Chow of Wilkes, winning a super-breaker to earn the triumph 4-6, 6-4, 10-3.
The Ithaca men also scored a couple of victories over Bloomsburg netters in singles play. Spiegel scored a 6-3, 6-4 win over Gerard Puig, while Lazarevic added a 7-6, 6-2 win over Pedro Andari.
The Ithaca men wrap up their fall campaign during the first weekend of October, when they send a contingent of invitees to the ITA Northeast Regionals.
