Utica Women's Tennis Improves to 3-3 with Win at Wells

Aurora, NY – The Utica College women's tennis team improved to 3-3 overall on the season after defeating host Wells College 8-1 on Sunday afternoon.  Utica opened up the match with three victories in doubles play.  Julianne Pieros (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg) and Monica Johnson (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) topped Momoko Nakahama and Nicole Sanborn 8-5 in first doubles. Sara Gribanoff (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) and Anastasia Fitzpatrick (Parksville, NY/Liberty) defeated Aala Al-Hashimi and Yui Omachida 8-1 in second doubles, while Gabriella Morreale (Utica, NY/T.R Proctor) and LuLu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) earned an 8-1 victory in third doubles.

Pieros came back and earned a 6-1, 6-0 win in first singles, while Gribanoff swept second singles 6-0, 6-0. Fitzpatrick won 6-1, 6-0 in fourth singles, while LuLu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) and Shannon Fillmore (Somerset, NJ/Franklin ) wrapped up the afternoon with convincing wins at fifth and sixth singles.

The Pioneers return home on Thursday when they host Hartwick College in Empire 8 Conference play at 4 p.m.
