Nazareth downs Alfred in women's tennis, 8-1

ALFRED, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth swept all six singles matches to win for the third straight time in women's tennis Tuesday as the Golden Flyers downed Alfred in Empire 8 Conference action, 8-1.

Nazareth improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Alfred is 1-7 overall and 1-4 in E8 matches.

Senior Jean McCarthy and sophomore Allison Friends each improved to 4-0 in conference singles matches. McCarthy won 6-4, 6-3 over Alfred's Tori Pellegrino at first singles, while Friends won 6-0, 6-0 over Emma Siemer at second singles.

Marisa Joyce, Elizabeth Karstedt, Maelah Nadeau and Aliana Burgos each won straight-set singles matches.

In doubles, Friends and Joyce dominated at first doubles with an 8-2 triumph while Burgos and Maeve Morgan teamed up for another point at third doubles.

Nazareth competes again this weekend at the ITA Tournament at William Smith.
