Hartwick Stays Perfect; Defeats Fisher 7-2

ONEONTA, NY – On the backend of a back-to-back, the Hartwick women's tennis team continued its season hot streak with a 7-2 defeat over St. John Fisher College at the Hartwick Courts. The victory establishes a 7-0 overall record for the Hawks and a 3-0 mark in the Empire 8. Conference rival St. John Fisher falls to 4-3 (3-3 E8).

At no. 1, Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) and Rose Natoli (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) gathered their second sweep as a duo beating Sarah Sorrentino and Katey Padden, 8-0.

The matchups featuring Hartwick partners, Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai)/Kelli Ryan (Plattsburgh, NY/Seton Catholic) and Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake)/Jaclyn LaSita (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) were more competitive.

Napolitano and Ryan took care of Taylor Slink and Olivia Rotondo, 8-4 at the second flight. At the third, O'Brien and LaSita fell, 8-5.

Heading into the singles competition, 2-1, the Hawks claimed five more wins to register the team victory.

The Hawks' only loss came at the sixth flight as Caroline Seaberg outlasted LaSita in three sets. After grabbing the first set, 7-5, LaSita would fall in the next two including a 10-2 super tiebreaker.

Rice, at the top flight, only sacrificed one point in her battle against Sarah Sorrentino, 6-1, 6-0. The junior has only given up three games in her last two matches.

With two matches left of its home stand, Hartwick will see Ithaca September 28th.  On Saturday, October 1st, 'Wick will host Wells College.
