Fisher Ranked in both National Polls
The St. John Fisher College (4-0) football team moved up in the latest
D3football.com and
American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III polls, which reflect games through Saturday, Sept. 24.
The Cardinals moved up to No. 13 in the AFCA poll and No. 14 in the D3football.com poll. Alfred University (4-0) and Utica College (4-0) are amongs teams also receiving votes in both polls.
Fisher rallied from a 28-7 halftime-deficit, as the Cardinals battled back for a 42-38 win over the College at Brockport in Courage Bowl XII on Sept. 24 in an Empire 8 Conference football matchup played in front of over 8,400 fans.
The victory marked the largest deficit overcame in a win in Fisher history with senior quarterback
Matt Naton's one-yard dive with 17 seconds left, clinching the win.
Fisher returns to action at 1 p.m. October 1 and will host Buffalo State College as part of Alumni Weekend activities
Alfred dominated both sides of the ball in a 20-6 Homecoming victory over visiting Ithaca College last Saturday. The AU defense held Ithaca to just 54 yards offense through three quarters and for the game limited the Bombers to 169, including minus-three on the ground.
Alfred is in action on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. at Empire 8 foe Morrisville.
Utica hauled in a school-record five interceptions and remained undefeated as the Pioneers topped visiting and nationally-ranked No. 23 Cortland State 24-13. The Pioneers have now defeated two top-25 opponents in the last three weeks. Utica travels to Ithaca College to take on the Bombers at 1 p.m on Saturday.
