Rivera Honored By Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame
ROCHESTER, NY –
Luis Rivera, '16, had yet another honor come his way after an unprecedented senior campaign in 2015-16. Rivera was named the James D. Ulrich award winner by the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame. This award is presented annually by the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame to the outstanding Male College Athlete of the Year from other than NCAA Division I Colleges in or from the Niagara Association. In all, seven other awards were given out by the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame.
As a senior, Rivera became the first-ever track and field National Champion for Nazareth as he blew away the field in the 35-pound weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships with a heave of 20.45 meters (67 feet, 7 ¼ inches). He later became a three-time All-American during the outdoor season when he placed third in the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Field Track and Field Championships in Waverly, IA.
The Rochester native was named the Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
