USTFCCCA RELEASE

NEW ORLEANS, La.
– Just one day after being named Empire 8 Conference Field Athlete of the Week, senior Katherine Pitman of the Ithaca College women's track & field team was honored as the nation's top performer by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

On January 13, Pitman tied her own school record in the pole vault at the Ramapo Season Opener held at the NYC Armory. She cleared 4.15 meters (13 feet, 7.25 inches), which was nearly two-and-a-half feet better than the runner-up (3.40 meters – 11' 1.75"), and almost three feet more than the next closest Division III entry.

The Swampscott, Mass. native was the only athlete remaining in the field when she entered competition at 3.75 meters. Her mark of 4.15 meters is the second-best in NCAA DIII history, which she also reached at the ECAC Championships last winter.

Ithaca is back in action on Saturday as it hosts the Bomber Quad at 1 p.m. in the Athletics and Events Center.
