Fisher's Mervis Receives National Award

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A Longtime assistant football coach at St. John Fisher College,
Gary Mervis was recently honored at the annual Scientific Meeting of the Society of Neuro-Oncology with the 2016 Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) Heroes Award by Cure Media Group. Mervis, who was nominated by Pediatric Oncologist, Dr. David Korones, and introduced at the ceremony by Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Louis "Sandy" Constine, recently completed his 27th year on the sidelines at Fisher in 2016.
This a national award that recognizes individuals who have made a significant difference in the lives of patients diagnosed with glioblastoma. The award was presented to Mervis by the founder of Cure Magazine, Kathy LaTour, Vice President of Cure Media Group, Eric Lohrmann, and Fran Drescher, who is most known for her role in the hit television series, The Nanny, and is also well known for advocating health and wellness.
Mervis is the Chairman and Founder of Camp Good Days and Special Times, Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges.
Camp Good Days is a sponsor for Fisher's annual Teddi Dance, which has been a fundraising tradition at the College for more than 30 years. He is also the sponsor and co-founder of the Fisher Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the driving force behind the creation of the Courage Bowl, Fisher's annual game dedicated to the children of Camp Good Days, which has been played annually since 2005.
