BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The St. John Fisher College baseball team will begin the 2017 season as one of the nation's elite programs as the Cardinals were ranked eighth in the country according to d3baseball.com's preseason poll, which was released Thursday.

Fisher, which was also ranked in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's preseason poll, is coming off a historic season in which the Cardinals posted a 39-13 record en route to an NCAA Division III Regional Championship and the program's first-ever appearance in the Division III World Series.

The Cardinals are set to return 30 players from last year's squad, seven of whom were named All-Conference by the Empire 8 including pitcher Loukas Brigham who was named a preseason All-American last week.

SUNY Cortland will begin its season as the nation's top-ranked team while Keystone, UW-La Crosse, Emory and La Roche rounded out the top five.

Ithaca received 14 votes in the D3baseball.com Preseason Poll (44th overall) and was also 65th overall in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Poll and Stevens was 61st overall in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Poll.
