US Lacrosse Magazine Ranking
The St. John Fisher College and Ithaca College women's lacrosse teams will begin the season as two of the top teams in Division III as the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and US Lacrosse Magazinse has both teams ranked in the Top-20 preseason polls.
Fisher is ranked 13th in the IWLCA poll and 12th in the US Lacrosse Magazine Poll. Ithaca is ranked 19th and 20th, respectively.
Coming off its fifth-straight Empire 8 Championship title, St. John Fisher looks to continue its success in 2017 after the team made its way to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship for the fifth-straight season in 2016 where it won its opening round bout against Calvin College before bowing out to eventual national champion Middlebury in the second round. At the conclusion of the year, the Cardinals amassed 17 wins, eclipsing the previous Fisher record for wins in a season by two. The team also ended the year ranked 18th in the country.
Returning to the roster this season are Fisher's top-two point scorers in
Jordan Johnson and
Cori Holbrook. The pair combined to account for nearly half (115-331) of the points the team accumulated last season. Also returning is senior goalkeeper
Hayley Peets, who anchored a defense that allowed an average of 5.38 goals this year, which was the third lowest average in the nation.
The Bombers are coming off a 14-6 record a season ago, which included a trip to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. The women return almost all of their key players from last season, which includes three IWLCA All-Region standouts in junior
Molly Long and seniors
Morgan Cadwell and
Morgan Racicot.
