Houghton College served as host to the Special Olympics NY Western Regional Bocce Competition on Saturday, September 16.

Nearly 50 Special Olympic athletes competed in the team event, which was held on Burke Field outside the Kerr- Pegula Field House. The Alle-Catts, Allegany ARC Green Machine, Chautauqua Lakers, and Dunkirk Lakers were among the teams competing for the Special Olympics.

Houghton's Student- Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) aided in the planning and running of the event, including building the bocce courts, scoring during the day, cheering on the Special Olympic athletes, and cleaning up.

With additional support from Allegany ARC and The Friends of Allegany ARC Foundation, the Western Regional Bocce competition was a great success. Houghton will remain partnered with Special Olympics NY as the long-term host of Western Regional Bocce. Without the support from everyone, this event would not have been possible.
