Arita and Woody Earn Spots on D3football.com National Team of the Week
The College at Brockport senior Matt Arita and SUNY Cortland sophomore D'monte Woody have been named to the D3football.com national "Team of the Week," presented by Scoutware, for the week ending Oct. 22. The team consists of the best performers by position among all Division III schools during the week
In his first game in a starting role, Arita played a huge part in a 45-0 shutout of Hartwick. He recorded seven tackles (six solo), including a tackle for a loss. He also had a key interception late in the third quarter to preserve the shutout.
The Brockport defense was dominant against the Hawks, limiting them to -50 yards on the ground by the way of 12 quarterback sacks, a new Brockport record. The team is now the top rushing defense in the country, limiting opponents to 32 yards rushing per game.
Woody earned a spot in a special teams capacity during the Red Dragons' 34-20 Empire 8 win at Morrisville State. On the final play of the third quarter, with Cortland leading 20-13, Red Dragon lineman
Travis Alvarez (Keyport, NJ) blocked a Mustangs' field goal attempt. Woody scooped up the ball at the Cortland 17-yard line, fought his way through traffic down the left sideline near midfield, then cut back to the middle and raced to the end zone for an 83-yard return to put Cortland ahead 27-13.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Buffalo State for a 12 p.m. matchup with the Bengals. They'll be back at home the following week when they square off against Alfred for a senior day game beginning at noon.
The Red Dragons will travel to St. John Fisher this Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
