Tesori Named Women's Golf Coach of the Year

SUNY Cortland head coach Joe Tesori has been voted the Empire 8 Women's Golf Coach of the Year by the coaches in the league. 
 
Cortland placed first at the 2017 Empire 8 Championship held Oct. 14-15, winning its first-ever conference title. The Red Dragons had a two-day total of 682, finishing 83 strokes ahead of Suffolk University
 
Tesori guided junior Tiffany Schapira to individual E8 medalist honors and Hannah Fitzgerald to E8 Rookie of the Year honors, marking the fourth time in Empire 8 women's golf history the same school has won both awards.
 
Cortland participated in four tournaments during fall of 2017 and had three top-five finishes. The Red Dragons started the season at the St. Lawrence Invitational and placed fourth out of 12 teams. Cortland then placed second at the William Smith Invite and the Martin-Wallace Invite. The Red Dragons had their final tune-up one week before E8's at the Williams Fall Invite and placed tenth. 
 
In addition to Tesori's honor, one member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2017 Women’s Golf Sportswoman of the Year Team.  Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.

At the conclusion of the E8 Championship the top finishers in the two-day tournament were named to the first and second all-conference teams.
