Washington and Jefferson will host the 2017 Empire 8 Field Hockey Tournament in the four-team format on Nov. 3-4.

The Presidents earned the top seed with a perfect 7-0 record in conference play.

St. John Fisher will serve as the No. 2 seed in the tournament with a 6-1 record.

Hartwick, Houghton and Utica were all tied with a 4-3 conference record so it came down to the league tiebreakers to determine seeding for the tournament. competing for the #3 and #4 seed. All three teams have a 1-1 head to head record against each other. Comparing results against the highest seed and continuing in descending order would have them all losing to the #1 seed and all losing to #2 seed. They would then be compared to #6 and they all beat #6, #7 and #8.  The next tiebreaker criteria is record against common opponents. All three teams played Oneonta and Brockport. Utica is 2-0 against Oneonta and Brockport, Hartwick was 1-0 and Houghton 0-2. So Utica would be advanced out of the tiebreaker to #3 seed. Then Houghton and Hartwick would be compared and Houghton won the head to head game in the regular season so Houghton would be the No. 4 seed and ultimately leaving Hartwick out of the postseason tournament.
