2017 Women's Soccer Championship Field Set
The seeding for the 2017 Empire 8 Women's Soccer Tournament all came down to the final day of conference play.
Hartwick College, Nazareth College and Stevens Institute of Technology were all tied at the top of the standings heading into their final game today. All three teams won keeping them tied with 7-1 E8 records and 21 points. In order to determine seeding for the tournament and hosting rights, the league tiebreakers for women's soccer came into play.
Hartwick, Nazareth and Stevens all earned the same points in the head to head competition against each other (Hartwick beat Naz, Naz beat Stevens, Stevens beat Hartwick) and they all had seven conference wins. The goal differential between the three tied teams would all be 0 (Hartwick W 1-0, L 1-2; Naz L 0-1, W 3-2; Stevens W 2-1, L 2-3). The least goals allowed by each of the tied teams against each other would put Hartwick at 2, Nazareth at 3 and Stevens at 4. S Hartwick is advanced out of the tiebreaker to the No. 1 seed and will host the 2017 tournament. Nazareth and Stevens would be compared head to head and with the Golden Flyers regular season win over the Ducks, Nazareth is No. 2 and Stevens is No. 3.
The fourth and final seed of the tournament is Alfred University. The Saxons defeated Utica College, 4-2, at home tonight to finish with 11 points in the conference standings, edging out Houghton College who had 10 points.
