The Stevens Institute of Technology men's cross country team placed first out of nine teams Saturday, Oct. 28 at the 2017 Empire 8 Cross Country Championships hosted at Parkview Fairways in Victor, NY. The Ducks recorded 23 points to claim their first conference championship title in program history.

Stevens senior Greg Arabagian led the race from start to finish to claim the individual E8 title with a time of 27:44.5 over the 8K course. Arabagian only the second Ducks runner in program history to win the E8 title, as former Ducks runner Michael Cahill took top honors in 2013.

Stevens, St. John Fisher College and Utica College all placed five student-athletes in the top-25, but it was the Ducks who had five runners in the top-10 that led them to victory. The Cardinals pulled out a second place team finish with 70 points, narrowly edging out Utica who finished third with 78 points.

Houghton College had its best team finish at the E8 Championships with a fourth place score of 113, followed by Nazareth (117), Alfred (147), Elmira (205) and Hartwick (208). The Sage College had a runner compete but not enough runners to compile a team score.

Arabagian was 10 second faster than runner-up Pj Gunther of Stevens. Gunther crossed in 27:54.3 followed by Alfred University senior Kyle Gallo (28:07.7).
