West Named to D3football.com Team of the Week
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – After being named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week yesterday afternoon, awards continue to roll in for Alex West, who's been placed on the
D3football.com Team of the Week for the week ending October 29, 2017. This is the second time this season the sophomore linebacker has received national accolades, and the fifth time in eight weeks that Golden Eagle football players have earned spots on the weekly honor roll.
West was a defensive playmaker in Saturday's 33-0 shutout of Buffalo State. He led the team in tackles with nine (seven solo), while also recording 3.5 sacks, one of which was in the Bengal end zone for a safety. The Dansville, N.Y. native was also involved in two of the three Brockport turnovers, recovering a fumble and picking off a pass, both in the second quarter.
The Golden Eagle defense now ranks first in the nation in team sacks, averaging 4.4 per-game (35 total). West has played a huge part in that, ranking second on the team with six total sacks. He also leads the team in solo tackles with 27, and fumble recoveries with two.
Brockport will be back in action this Saturday when they host Alfred University for a senior day matchup beginning at 12 p.m. A win would give the Golden Eagles their first ever Empire 8 title, and a spot in the NCAA Championship Playoffs.
