Greco, King, Stewart and Milligan named AVCA All-N.Y. Region
LEXINGTON, Ky. (November 9, 2017) – Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball sophomores Julie Greco, Casey King and Shelby Stewart and Nazareth College senior Kelsey Milligan were each named to the 2017 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-New York Region Team Thursday.
It's the second career All-Region accolade for Stewart, while Greco and King are being recognized for the first time. The trio is now eligible for AVCA All-American status, which will be announced Tuesday, November 14. Milligan was an honorable mention selection.
Greco completed her regular season by averaging 9.65 assists per set, which included a 9.12 assists per set average over 58 sets against regionally-ranked opponents. The Thornwood, New York native increased her output to 10.14 assists in Empire 8 Conference play, leading to a Second Team honor for the sophomore setter. Greco handed out 30 or more assists 18 times, including a career-best 53 against Montclair State.
King, the Empire 8's co-Player of the Year, led the team with 3.42 kills per set and 4.17 points per set. The Wallington, New Jersey native collected 11 double-doubles and added 57 aces, 46 blocks and 295 digs to go along with her 369 kills. King was at her best against nationally-ranked opponents, averaging 3.75 kills per set and 2.75 digs per set to pace the team. King was the E8's co-Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
Stewart returns to the All-New York region team after again ranking among the nation's leaders in blocks. After receiving AVCA Honorable Mention All-American status as a freshman after setting the program's single-season block record, Stewart added 123 total blocks to her career total, averaging 1.15 blocks per set. Showing a more-rounded game as a sophomore, Stewart led the E8 by hitting an impressive .427 against conference opponents and totaled 35 aces to finish second on the team.
Milligan was recently honored as a first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star after leading the Golden Flyers to a 21-13 overall record and runner-up finish in the conference tournament. She played in all 34 matches for the Golden Flyers and led the team with 309 kills (2.47 per set) and 90 blocks (0.72 per set). She also produced a .319 hitting percentage with 41 service aces and 83 digs. She recorded double digit kill totals in 15 matches in 2017.
