Utica Women's Lacrosse Earns National Award From IWLCA
UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team was honored with the Team Community Awareness Award by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) at the 2017 honors banquet and annual meetings in Orlando, FL on Wednesday.
The award recognizes outstanding contributions by one team from each division on their campus and in their local community. Utica was the Division III winner of the national award. The Pioneers participate in a number of community outreach programs, including dedicating games to special causes such as the American Heart Association during America's Greatest Heart Run/Walk. Last season Utica also held a #ONELOVE game to help end relationship violence and honor former University of Virginia lacrosse player, Yeardley Love, who was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend in 2010.
UC wrapped up the 2017 season with an 8-7 overall record and a 4-4 mark in conference play. Utica was just one win shy of earning a berth into the Empire 8 Conference tournament. This marks the third straight year the Pioneers have finished 4-4 in the E8.
